Tuesday 25 March 2008 - DFW to Amarillo, TX & Palo Duro Canyon

Tuesday 25 March 2008

We are still on Interstate 20 for awhile longer. Once we scoot around DFW will head north to I40 near Amarillo. We are staying here for two nights at the A-OK campground just east of the city, space 228. Once again there are very few people here, however, the people near us came by just after we were set up. They are from Michigan and are heading back home. They leave every winter to avoid the severe cold. That is a good idea. They told us about the Palo Duro Canyon and we told them about the Country Barn BBQ. So, the next day we headed to the canyon. The canyon is a little version of the Grand Canyon. You can drive to the bottom and there are several campgrounds, hiking trails, wildlife, biking trails; besides the steep rock formations, and various earth colors. We will plan a trip back to this area just to camp. While visiting, we did some hiking and watched wild turkeys and horses. It is shorts weather 81 degrees. We are blessed.
