My! Forty-five years have gone by fast! I went to UC Santa Cruz when I left Kelseyville High. After graduating I traveled and did odd jobs mostly teaching ESL for short stints and always found myself back in Lake County for the pear season to work in the sheds! I went back to school to get my teaching credential in '76 at Sac State and then got my Masters degree and a bilingual education credential. So then I came back to Lake Co. and did jobs with Migrant Ed and Adult Ed and worked the harvests and poured wine at Konocti winery.
I met my wonderful Mexican husband Roberto Lozano through friends in Lake Co. right about the same time I got hired in Healdsburg to teach kindergarten. We got married in '84 and lived in Santa Rosa. We moved back to Lake Co. in '89 when I got hired in Kelseyville. Roberto has served as a court interpreter in Lake Co. and Mendocino Co. We live at the ranch where I grew up and love it. We had our daughter, Paz, in '91. She grew up with her grandma right next door which was wonderful. My mom lived to see her graduate from 8th grade. Paz is at Berkeley in her sophomore year. She has red hair like my mom did!
I have been teaching kindergarten for twenty five years and never get bored! I even taught one year in our fifth grade room where we had Irene Smith as our teacher! It has been so much fun to see the generations of kids come through school and actually know some of their grandparents! Hope to retire when Paz graduates from Berkeley!
