After crossing the state of Mississippi we stopped for the night at Barksdale AFB in Shreveport, Louisiana. We went through a gate inspection whereby military personnel checked under our truck and coach, plus going inside to look for any terrorism items. Dirty laundry is probably the most offensive item. The campground was large and inviting. Lawns around the area had sections for picnics, exercise, games...basketball, baseball, horse shoes. Signs indicated there were gators in the swamp. Too late! Lucy was in the water before we could spin around. She must have been too long in the back seat and just took off. Good news for us, there was not a gator near the spot she took the plunge. The water was very green and now she needs a serious washing. Once the camp manager learned we were staying for one night, he directed us to a pull through area along with other one nighter's. All services were available. We would recommend this base for a stopover visit. There are many lakes for fishing and golf courses in the area.
